· Reflux in all half amounts
· Low flame
· Add 15 ml of acetic acid to 10 ml of isopropyl alcohol in addition to 1 ml of sulfuric acid
· Heating for 30 min
· Cool solution in flask by putting in H2O(50 ml)
· Separate the solution using separatory funnel
· Take away the aqueous layer
· Add to organic layer CaCO3 until it becomes basic (blue paper)
· Wash with 15 ml of water
· Shake
· Separate and leave the organic
· Dry over MgSO4
· Set up distillation

Do you know why we add sulfuric acid to the reactents?
Do you have an idea where can we see such a reaction?
What is the importance of esterification?
IF there is any question or comments you can post here in order to be answered later.

Equation

THIS IS THE EQUATION OF ESTERIFICATION WHICH IS :

CARBOXYLIC ACID +ALCOHOL = ESTER +WATER

DO YOU KNOW THAT WE CAN PRODUCE DIFFERENT TYPE OF ESTER?

HOPE YOU HAVE A SMALL IDEA ABOUT THIS REACTION. YOU CAN GIVE YOUR COMMENTS.
